Goose Decoys - Thursday, November 05, 2009 7:58 PM ( #1 )
Has anybody bought Carylite goose decoys lately??? They are getting to be so cheaply made they are broke are cracked when you get them,  Do they hunt Geese in Japan. I would not recomend then what so ever

So far the only true good quality made decoy's that I have found are G&H decoys. I have some of their floating and shell Canadians that I have been hunting for over 6 years now and they still have all of their original paint. Just this year a couple of the floaters started to lose the paint on their heads only but at least the plastic is molded out of black so it is not that big of a deal. The best part is their stuff is all made in the US !  I do have GHG, flambeau, and dakota goose floaters as well and they do not stack up any where near as good IMO as the G&H's do. I will be the first to admit the G&H's may not look as real but at least I am not worried about them turning white, cracking before they ever hit the water, or the heads popping off when the wind blows.

RIVERHUNTR;                                                                                                                   Try Herter's model #92's and #81's great goose decoys, last forever, and with a little handywork with a fan brush they look almost alive.

I have looked at the Herter's decoys for many years and they seem flat to me.  Smooth body to them with no definition.  Do you use the fan brush right after you get them or is it after they have been used for a few seasons?

I paint all the herter's decoys as and when I get them. On the goose decoys, take a medium fan brush , using tan side paint, stipple the backs of the goose decoys with the lighter paint, lightly loading the brush with paint, roll the brush to create a feather effect. use the same method on the lighter sides using the dark brown back paint, after a little trial and error you will start to get a good looking effect.
