cellphone in 2 ziploch bags. Life jacket on. Tell people where you are hunting at if possible. Can't be too careful w/ guns in boat or blind.

Whiteshoes, good advise. When I was 18 I took my girlfrend duck hunting. It was late in the afternoon and I saw some black ducks land in a pond. I idled up a creek and the outboard sucked up mud, the engine overheated and we spent the night in the boat. It was cold mid 20's. The Coast Guard looked for us all night. I shot all my shells but the wind was blowing the wrong way so not one could here. Back in those days long before cell phones and hand held VHF's.The next day at first light we walked out. My girl friend now wife of almost 40 years never went hunting with me again. And we didn't get a shot on those black ducks!

It never fails.  My dad and his good friend wanted me to take them hunting to a spot where they could make it as easy as possible for my dads friends wife.  You know, so she could see what her husband spent all his time and money doing, first hand.  I spent an hour "woman-proofing" the blind so to speak so as to prevent any unexpected mishaps from occurring.  I swept all the mud and empty shell casings from the blind so she wouldn't slide or trip on them.  I even bagged them up.  I layed a board from the levee to the inside of the blind so she didn't even have to step in the water.  Needless to say the morning of the hunt everything froze up.  It was the coldest day that season.  I drove them right up to the blind in my truck and had the heater on full blast the entire ride.  She took 2 steps from the levee to the board and slipped off the board and her foot broke through the ice and went in the water and over her boot.  She was done within 30 minutes.  Never again for her either.  lol.
